Abuja, Nigeria – The Supreme Court today ordered the Court of Appeal to resolve governorship candidate issue involving the two candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The PDP is currently enmeshed in a tussle over the two candidates, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim and Eyitayo Jegede(SAN) fielded by two factions in the party.
At the hearing today, Acting Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen who presided over the hearing also struck out ten motions for stay of execution filed against the lower court and directed the Appeal Court Justices to immediately proceed with the case in view of its urgency.
The Appeal court have less than 48 hours to resolve the impasse otherwise, Jimoh Ibrahim would stand as candidate of PDP in November 26th election in Ondo State.
The court also awarded N250,000 as cost against Biyi Poroye and others that filed the motion.
Other members of the supreme court panel include Justices Tanko Mohammed, Kudirat Kekere Ekun, Ejembi Eko and Kumai Akaahas.
