Not less than 40 residents have been abducted by armed herdsmen who invaded Marui Local Government in Zamfara State.
According to eye witnesses, the gunmen numbering about 100 invaded the community, diverted vehicles conveying their victims in retaliation for over 400 cows which were forcefully seized by security agencies in Zamfara.
One of the women, who was released by the herdsmen on instruction to narrate the incidents told reporters in Dansadau that the assailants vowed they will not release the captives until the cows were returned to them.
Infuriated by the development, Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari has reportedly set up a committee to unravel circumstances leading to abduction of 40 people in the state.
