Nigeria, Oct 4, 2016 – Supporters of candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on Monday stormed several streets in Benin City, protesting what they called injustice meted out to the people of Edo State.

The protesters who came out in large numbers with placards registered their misgivings about the election in which candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr. Godwin Obaseki was declared winner by Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

The protest started from Ize-Iyamu campaign office in Akpakpava street and went round before terminating at the same office.

Speaking during the protest, Mr. Olu Martins said it was historical and ironical that he was among the protesters that occupied the streets of Benin 9 to 10 years ago to protest injustices done to Adams Oshiomhole in 2007, adding that he is back in the street to protest electoral imposition by Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

He said the protest will continue until what rightfully belongs to Edo people is returned to them. Meanwhile, a group of election observers accredited by Independent National Electoral Commission for the Edo election have described the election as a far cry from a free and fair election.

In a communique read in behalf of the group by Esther Bassey of Public Interest Association, the group acknowledged that there was financial inducement and that there was large turnout of voters, which it said was not reflected in the results released by INEC and called for cancellation of the election.
