Switzerland – The International Olympic Committee(IOC) has striped eight athletes of their medal and participation for taking performance enhancing drugs at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The eight athletes are Zulfiya Chinshanlo, Kirill Ikonnikov, Maiya Maneza, Svetlana Podobedova, Dzina Sazanavets, Marina Shkermankova, Yauheni Zharnasek and Dmitry Starodubtsev.
The IOC Disciplinary Commission, comprising Mr. Denis Oswald (Chairman), Mrs Gunilla Lindberg and Mr Ugur Erdener sanctioned the athletes for testing positive to various substances prohibited by the IOC.
Chinshanlo, 23, of Kazakhstan, competed in the women’s 53kg weightlifting event in which she ranked 1st and for which she was awarded the gold medal. But has been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012 because re-analysis of her samples from London 2012 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances oxandrolone and stanozolol.
The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall notably secure the return to the IOC, as soon as possible, of the medal, the medallist pin and the diploma awarded in connection with the women’s 53kg weightlifting event to the athlete.
Ikonnikov, 32, of Russia, competed in the men’s hammer throw event (qualification and final) in which he ranked 5th and for which he was awarded a diploma. But he has been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012 because re-analysis of his samples from the game resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol).
The IAAF is requested to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence, while the Russian Olympic Committee shall notably secure the return to the IOC, as soon as possible, of the diploma awarded in connection with the men’s hammer throw event to the Athlete.
Maneza, 30, of Kazakhstan, competed in the women’s 63kg weightlifting event in which she ranked 1st and for which she was awarded the gold medal. She has been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012 because re-analysis of her samples from London 2012 Games resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance stanozolol.
The IWF is requested to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence, while the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall notably secure the return to the IOC, as soon as possible, of the medal, the medalist pin and the diploma awarded in connection with the women’s 63kg weightlifting event to the athlete.
Podobedova, 30, of Kazakhstan, competed in the women’s 75kg weightlifting event in which she ranked 1st and for which she was awarded the gold medal. She has been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012 because re-analysis of her samples from the London 2012 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance stanozolol.
The IWF is requested to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence, while the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall notably secure the return to the IOC, as soon as possible, of the medal, the medalist pin and the diploma awarded in connection with the women’s 75kg weightlifting event to the Athlete.
Sazanavets, 26, of Belarus, competed in the women’s 69kg weightlifting event in which she ranked 4th and for which she was awarded a diploma. She has been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012 because re-analysis of her samples from the game resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances drostanolone and stanozolol.
The IWF is requested to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence, while the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus shall notably secure the return to the IOC, as soon as possible, of the diploma awarded in connection with the women’s 69kg weightlifting event to the athlete.
Shkermankova, 26, of Belarus, competed in the women’s 69kg weightlifting event in which she ranked 3rd and for which she was awarded a bronze medal. She has been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012 because re-analysis of Shkermankova’s samples from London 2012 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol) and stanozolol.

Starodubtsev, 30, of Russia, competed in the men’s pole vault event (qualification and final) in which he ranked 4th and for which he was awarded a diploma. He has been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012 because re-analysis of his samples from London 2012 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol).

Zharnasek, 29, of Belarus, competed in the men’s +105kg weightlifting event in which he ranked 9th, and has been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012 because re-analysis of his samples from London 2012 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol), oxandrolone and stanozolol.
The IWF is requested to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence, while the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus shall ensure full implementation of this decision.
The IOC added that the disciplinary proceedings against Besik KUDUKHOV, 32, of Russia, who competed in the men’s 60kg freestyle wrestling event in which he ranked 2nd and for which he was awarded a silver medal at the Olympic Games London 2012, have been filed.
