Lagos, Nigeria, Sept., 16, 2016 – There seems to be no end in sight in the feud between recording label, Chocolate City and Olawale Ashimi better known as Brymo.

The parties are still fighting over who owns copyright to songs authored by Brymo but produced by Chocolate City.

On Thursday when the issue came up at the Federal High Court in Lagos, the matter was subsumed for another issue relating to jurisdiction.

Counsel to Brymo had told his Lordship, Justice Babs Kuewumi that the his court had no jurisdiction to entertain the case and that the issue of copyright lies within the jurisdiction of state high courts.

But efforts by counsel to Chocolate city to strike out the suit on the basis that only the Federal High Court has jurisdiction on matters relating to copyright met a brick wall when Justice Kuewumi said the matter of jurisdiction would have to be determined first before the court can proceed on substance of the issue so as not to embark on an exercise in futility.

Justice Kuewumi has fixed November 4th, 2016 to rule on whether or not the court has jurisdiction to entertain copyright matters.
Brymo signed a record deal with Chocolate City in 2010, but allegedly breached his contractual agreement with the label in 2013 when he left the organisation.
