IOC SANCTIONS SIX ATHLETES FOR FAILING ANTI-DOPING TEST

Switzerland, Aug.31, 2016 – International Olympic Committee(IOC) today sanctioned six athletes that took part in the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 for failing anti-doping test.

The athletes are Alexandru DUDOGLO, Nadezda EVSTYUKHINA, Tatyana FIROVA, Tigran MARTIROSYAN, Marina SHAINOVA and Intigam ZAIROV. DUDOGLO(Moldovo) was sanctioned due to presence of prohibited substance or its metabolites or markers in his bodily specimen and subsequently disqualified from the men’s 69kg weightlifting event in which he participated upon the occasion of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008.

“The IWF is requested to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence’’, the IOC said. Nadezda EVSTYUKHINA, 28, of the Russian Federation, competing in the Women’s 75kg weightlifting event, was also disqualified from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, in which she ranked third and for which she was awarded the bronze medal.

The IOC Disciplinary Commission, composed for this case of Denis Oswald (Chairman), Gunilla Lindberg and Ugur Erdener, decided that Nadezda EVSTYUKHINA committed an anti-doping rule violation pursuant to the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing in 2008 due to the (presence and/or use, of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers in the athlete’s bodily specimen.

The IOC also decided to withdraw the medallist pin and the diploma obtained in the 75kg weightlifting event and requested the IWF to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence.

Tatyana FIROVA, 33, of the Russian Federation, who competed in athletics in the Women’s 400m and 4x400m events is found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation pursuant to the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing in 2008 due to presence and/or use, of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers in the athlete’s bodily specimen.

She was disqualified from the Women’s 400m and the Women’s 4x400m relay.The IOC also disqualified the Russian Federation Team from the Women’s 4x400m relay. The corresponding medals and diplomas are withdrawn and shall be returned.

“The IAAF is requested to modify the results of the above-mentioned events accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence”, the IOC said.

For Tigran MARTIROSYAN, 28, of Armenia, who competed in the Men’s 69kg weightlifting event, the IOC Disciplinary Commission, composed for this case of Denis Oswald (Chairman), Gunilla Lindberg and Ugur Erdener, decided that Tigran MARTIROSYAN is found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation pursuant to the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing in 2008 (presence and/or use, of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers in an athlete’s bodily specimen), and is disqualified from the Men’s 69kg weightlifting event in which he participated upon the occasion of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, has the bronze medal, the diploma and the medallist pin obtained in the Men’s 69kg weightlifting event withdrawn.

The IWF is requested to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence.

For Marina SHAINOVA, 30, the IOC Disciplinary Commission, composed for this case, Denis Oswald (Chairman), Juan Antonio Samaranch and Ugur Erdener, decided that Marina SHAINOVA is found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation pursuant the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing in 2008 (presence of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers in an athlete’s bodily specimen), is disqualified from the 58kg weightlifting event in which she placed second upon the occasion of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008.

The IWF is requested to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence, while the Russian Olympic Committee shall ensure full implementation of this decision.

For Intigam ZAIROV, 31, of Azerbaijan, the IOC Disciplinary Commission, composed for this case of Denis Oswald (Chairman), Juan Antonio Samaranch and Ugur Erdener, decided that ZAIROV is found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation pursuant to the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing in 2008 (presence and/or use, of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers in an athlete’s bodily specimen) and is disqualified from all the Men’s 85kg weightlifting event in which he participated upon the occasion of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008.

The IOC requested IWF to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence.
