Brazil, August 10, 2016 – Suspended President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff will be on trial for impeachment later this month for breaching budget rules.
The Senate suspended the president in May over illegal accounting practices but on Tuesday, the lawmakers voted 59 to 21 to go ahead with her trial.
She has denied the allegations saying what she is accused of were common practice under previous administrations.
The Senate had a marathon session that stretched into the early hours of Wednesday.
Ms Rousseff has been accused of spending money without congressional approval and taking out unauthorised loans from state banks to boost the national budget ahead of the 2014 election, when she was re-elected.
