Morocco, July 29, 2016 – Visitors to a zoo in Rabat, capital of Morocco were stunned on Tuesday when an elephant tossed a huge stone a distance of about 10 metres which landed on the head of the unidentified seven year old girl behind enclosure.
A zoo veterinarian found behavior of the elephant , named Aisha “abnormal” that needs to be understood.
The girl in question visited the Zoological Garden in company of her family on Tuesday and was taking photographs when one of the elephants searched for a stone, picked it up and tossed it more than 10 metres over a huge ditch and a wooden barrier towards the visitors.
“The girl was struck in the head”, forcing officials to temporarily close the elephant exhibit to the public.
Meanwhile, the Rabat Zoo has denied responsibility for the young girl’s death, and specifically stated that the elephant enclosure met all international standards but offered condolences to the family of the deceased girl and said that “this kind of incident is rare, unpredictable and strange.”
