Security forces mount barricade in Dhaka where hostages are held




Bangladesh, July 1, 2016 – Bloodbath is currently ongoing in Dhaka, Bangladesh as criminal elements hold about 20 people hostage in a cafe.

Police engage the criminals in a gun battle, leaving one dead. Local media reports that the attackers threw grenades at officers in retaliation.
The café identified as Holey Artisan Bakery is very popular among diplomats.The café owner Sumon Reza told CNN that the gunmen number about 6-8 adding that he managed to escape from the scene.

A police officer in charge of a nearby police station was said to have been killed, Maruf Hasan of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said.

A police officer, Gen. Benzir Ahmed said “We are trying to resolve this issue peacefully,” he told reporters. An eye witness living nearby, Farzana Azim said she heard explosions outside her home.

“We heard the first bomb blast at 8:30 in the evening,” Azim said. At first she thought it was the sound of a plane, but a few minutes later another blast echoed through the neighborhood of Gulshan. Within a half hour, the gunshots started, she said.
