Bydgoszcz, Poland, July 12, 2016 – Not less than 1,518 athletes are competing at the IAAF World U20 Championships, tagged Bydgoszcz 2016. The tournament will commence from July 19 to 24.
Out of the 1,518 athletes, 832 will be competing in the male category while the remaining 686 will compete in the female category.
A total of 1,566 athletes competed for the event in Barcelona in 2012.
“With the deadline for the final entries now closed, a total of 1518 athletes (832 men and 686 women) have been entered. It looks set to be the second-biggest World U20 Championships to date, bettered only by the 2012 edition in Barcelona, where 1566 athletes participated”, the IAAF said in a statement.
It added that the 2016 event will also surpass the figures from the 2008 edition, also held in Bydgoszcz, making it the biggest athletics championships ever held in Poland.
