Marcus Willis defeated no. 54 seed at Wimbledon

London, June 28, 2016 – Marcus Willis (25), seeded world no. 772 made history on Monday when he defeated Ricardas Berankis, seeded no. 54 in world ranking to move into the second round at the Wimbledon championship.

Ironically, it is the first time Willis is making it to Wimbledon. Willis, born in Slough, beat Lithuania’s world No.54 Berankis 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

He is now set to meet Roger Federer in the second round.

“I’m not sure he can play on grass – that’s good. It’s an amazing dream come true. I get to play on a stadium court. This is what I dreamed of when I was younger.

“I’m going to go out there and try to win the tennis match. I probably won’t. I might not. But I’m going to give everything, as I have the last seven matches, ” Willis said.
Willis is guaranteed £50,000 for reaching the second round.
