Nigeria, June 27, 2016 – The Executive Chairman of Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB), Dr. Ganiyu Oluremi Sopeyin has decried the illegal and unauthorised use of public schools’ setback by traders and artisans, describing the action as an environmental nuisance and a breach of public order.
Sopeyin during an inspection tour with other board members and management staff of some primary schools in the state, warned the illegal occupiers that it was not going to be business as usual, adding that the State Government through the board was determined to make public primary schools more conducive for qualitative and quantitative education.
He wondered why traders and artisans should constitute themselves into environmental nuisance without due consideration of the grave consequences of their action while leaving the private schools to flourish at the detriment of government owned schools.
He directed those who carry out illegal activities along government schools setbacks to vacate such locations within seven days, otherwise the Board may be forced to invite the state environmental task force team to evict them.
Sopeyin also called on the management of public primary schools to avoid wastages and stressed that the inspection exercise would be continuous.
The schools visited include Gbagada Primary School, Gbagada, Ajidagan PrimarySchool, Gbagada and Layi Oyekanmi Primary School, Mushin.
