THREE DEAD, 14 INJURED IN LAGOS ACCIDENT

Lagos, Nigeria, June 23, 2016 – At least three people have been confirmed dead and 14 others injured in an early morning accident within the Lagos metropolis.

Officials at the scene of the accident said it took place at 5:36 am at Conoil inward Lagos, just after the Lagos State Secretariat, between an LT commercial bus loaded with 17 passengers with registration number KRD 326 XG and an articulated truck, without a registration number.

According to General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Agency(LASEMA), Mr. Michael Akindele, preliminary investigation carried out by the Emergency Response Team(ERT) at the scene of the incident revealed that the incident occurred as a result of reckless driving on the part of the truck driver, leading to collision with the bus.

He said nine passengers sustained serious injuries, while five others sustained minor injuries and were immediately rushed down to the Lagos State trauma center by the FRSC and LASAMBUS.

“Three passengers were also trapped dead and were extricated by the LASEMA Emergency Response Team with the use of light duty equipment. The dead victims were 2 adult male and 1 adult female”, he said, adding that 17 passengers were on board the LT Bus. He said the truck driver suffered shock as a result of the accident and was also taken to the truma centre for medical attention.

Akindele advised motorist to avoid reckless driving and also ensure that they drive within appropriate speed limit to prevent road accident in the state.
