Nigeria, June 1, 2016 – Militants operating in the Niger Delta, known as Niger Delta Avengers today blew up Chevron oil wells in the Niger Delta area.
In a statement on its official Tweeter page, the group said it blew up Chevron Oil wells, RMP 23 and RMP 24 at 3:44 am.
It added that the affected oil wells are Chevron’s highest producing wells in the swamps.
The group which boasted that its strikers achieved the feat despite 100 gunboats, 4 war ships and fighter jets said the development shows the military is only good at harassing innocent people.
The Niger Delta Avengers which came into being recently had rejected offers by the Nigerian government to grant communities in the region opportunity to be part of security apparatus to protect oil installations in the area, stressing that what it wants is a sovereign state not contracts.
The group is carrying out the attacks just as President Muhammadu Buhari travels to Ogoniland on Thursday to launch the Ogoniland clean up project.
