Nigeria, June 16, 2016 – The militants operating in the Niger Delta area known as Niger Delta Avengers(NDA) today said it has blown up a pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) in Oruk, Anam Local Government.
The group which announced the incident on its official tweeter page said it carried out the attack at 4:am today.
“At 4:00am, @ND Avengers blow up NNPC pipeline in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State”, the group said on tweeter.
It is not clear why the group carried out this attack following the press statement it issued last week that it is ready for dialogue but that the Federal Government of Nigeria must lay down the ground work for a peaceful and genuine dialogue.
It also warned the Nigerian Government not to turn the proposed dialogue into a political jamboree.
The group however said oil companies should however not repair broken pipelines and that government should cease further oil exploration and sales of petroleum product in the region pending when the dialogue will take place.
