A former Nigerian minister, Chief Ojo Maduekwe is dead




Nigeria, June 29, 2016 – A former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Ojo Maduekwe is dead. He was 71.

He died this evening in Abuja after he collapsed at the Abuja International Airport on his way to the United States.
Born Chief Ojo Maduekwe May 6, 1945, he was appointed Foreign Minister of Nigeria on July 26, 2007 by former President of Nigeria, the late Umaru Yar’Adua.

He was National Secretary of the ruling political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He worked as the deputy director of PDP presidential campaign 2011 Goodluck/Sambo ticket.

He also served as Minister for Culture and Tourism in 1999 and was later appointed Minister of Transport in 2001. In this position, he advocated for use greater use of bicycle and was pushed into a ditch by a bus while he was cycling to work.
