9 KILLED, 10 INJURED IN LAGOS ACCIDENT

Nigeria, June 5, 2016 – At least nine people have been killed and 10 others confirmed injured in a road accident caused by over speeding in Lagos.

Confirming the incident, General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency(LASEMA), Mr. Michael Akindele said a total number of 9 people lost their lives in the incident.

According to him, those dead are 5 adult (4 males and 1 female)and 4 children( 2males, 2 females) while 10 others sustained injuries, he said adding that they were taken to the emergency Trauma centre at toll gate , Lagos.
According to the manager, the agency received an emergency alert via the CRM of an accident involving two vehicles at Fadeyi Bus stop around 5.45 am this morning 3/6/2016.

“This prompted immediate activation of the Emergency Response Plan, where all emergency responders which includes LASEMA Emergency Response Team, LASTMA, LASAMBUS FRSC, Nigeria Police from Onipan”, he said, adding that two vehicles were involved, a Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number No. Katsina KT 715YG and a truck with registration number Lagos GGE 715 YG.

According to him, investigation carried out by the ERT at the scene of the incident revealed that the accident occurred due to over speeding and careless driving. The driver of the Toyota was said to have collided with a covet while on high speed, lost control of the vehicle and ran across the road into a coming articulated truck with registration No. Lagos GGE 715 YG from the opposite direction.

He advised drivers to be cautious and avoid over speeding to prevent unnecessary accident leading to loss of lives
