Nigeria, May 12, 2016 – Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Rivers South East Senatorial District at the yet to be concluded legislative re-run election in Rivers State has decried the politicization of crime in the State.

Speaking to newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, on his way to Abuja, Abe said that crime in the state was festering because Governor Nyesom Wike, Mr. Felix Obuah and the PDP leadership in the state were playing politics with a serious matter such as crime.

“What is escalating crime in Rivers State today is the politicization of crime. We should stop politicizing crime. What is happening is too serious for politics”.

He said the government in the state pay lip service to issues of security as well as pretends to encourage law enforcement agents to apprehend criminals and at the same time obstruct them from performing their duties.

“You cannot call for investigation and at the same time you are the one obstructing the investigation”.

Abe stated that at any point security agents would want to bring certain persons connected with certain crimes to book, the government would whip up sentiments alleging that the persons were being hunted because they were PDP members.

“What is important at this point is that government should encourage the law enforcement agents to enforce the law”.

He said every law breaker should be arrested whether PDP or APC such that he or she does not hide on the back of the political parties to commit criminal offences.

The former Secretary to the Rivers State government urged Rivers people to dismiss as ranting and laughable the statement credited to Mr. Felix Obuah, the PDP chairman in the state, alleging that Abe was responsible for the insecurity in the state because of the call that his supporters should defend themselves against attack.

“I stand by what I said that people should do everything they can to defend themselves and not to be allowed to be killed like rats because what is happening in Ogoni-land is clearly a case of genocide instigated by Governor Nyesom Wike to exterminate the people”.
