Nigeria, May 13, 2016 – The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has rejected recent increase in the pump price of petroleum product from N86.50 to N145 per litre, with a call on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to revert to old price regime with immediate effect or be faced with mass protest.

TUC also gave the Nigerian Government up to Wednesday, May 18 to invite leadership of labour to discuss ways to move forward following its unilateral increment in the pump price of fuel from N86.50 to N145 per litre.
The decision of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency meeting today in Abuja.

“The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) at an emergency meeting held on Friday 13th May 2016 in Lagos deliberated extensively on the recent increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol by the Federal Government and passed the following resolutions.

“ The NEC-in-Session rejected in its entirety the astronomical increase in the price of petrol from N86.50 per litre to N145 per litre and demanded that the Government should revert to the old price regime with immediate effect”, the TUC said.
