Nigeria, May 27, 216 – The 20th Convocation Ceremony of the Lagos State University continued on Monday, 23rd May, 2016, with a Carnival-like Coconut breaking festival, which has been a tradition of the university for years.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor ‘Lanre Fagbohun, his wife, Mrs. Yeside Fagbohun, Principal Officers, Senior Members of Staff, other Staff and students arrived the Badagry Gate, venue of the well attended programme with appreciation from the cheering crowd.
It was an unprecedented one in the history of the 33-year old university.
In his address, the Chief Host, Professor ‘Lanre Fagbohun, who was overwhelmed by the large turnout of the university community stated that the celebration is not about ‘Lanre Fagbohun.
“It is about us. Today is not a day for talk. I just want to say thank you in gold and diamond, God bless”.
Thereafter, the Vice Chancellor led members of the community who broke the coconut with prayers for the growth, stability and development of the university.
He broke the coconut seamlessly amid appreciation from those in attendance. Then, it was the turn of the Registrar, Mr. Akinwunmi Lewis, the Bursar, Mr. Adetayo Hassan, representative of the university librarian, Dr. [Mrs] B. Dirisu. Others were Chairman, Ceremonies Committee, Prof. Ayo Badejo, Dean, Students’ Affairs, Dr. Oluwafemi Obayori, the Convocation Lecturer, Prof. Akinloye Ojo, representative of LASU Alumni, Mr. N.T. Sikiru, Ag. Chairman Students’ Disciplinary Committee, Prof. Adeleke Fakoya, the Staff and Students’ Union Leaders.
Highpoint of the event was the cutting of the beautiful cake. The Vice Chancellor ably supported by his wife, principal officers and others symbolically cut the cake for the 2016 Coconut breaking festival in style.
