Nigeria, May 20, 2016 – The Lagos State Government today said it has disbursed the sum of N39million to 248 residents who are in need of financial assistance as start-up capital for small and medium scale business ventures.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Hon. Kehinde Joseph made this known at the 2016 ministerial press briefing in Lagos.

He explained that additional requests for financial assistance from members of the public are being processed and very shortly, more people will benefit from the exercise.

Joseph emphasized that in line with the present administration’s inclusive governance policy, the office has met with various groups and non- governmental organizations to promote activities related to volunteerism, community building and participation in the political process.

“This is to encourage the development of better and creative ideas and solutions that would be helpful to the citizens’ wellbeing, as well as create opportunities for citizens to have input in governance.”

“It is also to sensitize the groups on their roles in a democratic dispensation and the need for them to be actively involved in moving the state forward through effective mobilization of the people for participation in political processes.”

While noting that the state government will continue to encourage all well-meaning citizens to contribute their quota to governance in the state, Joseph maintained that Governor Ambode has made good his promise to carry Lagosians along with renewed hope and determination to run an open and inclusive government through engagements.
