Bayelsa, May 16, 2016 – The Nigerian military has confirmed arrest of members of the Niger Delta Avengers(NDA) who were responsible for attack on Chevron facility in Bayelsa.
Director of Defence Information (DDI), Brig-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, who confirmed the incident said investigation is still ongoing.
“This is to confirm the arrest of some suspected members of Niger Delta Avengers. Investigation is currently on going,”he said and appealed to community leaders to cooperate with them in quest to quell restiveness in the Niger Delta area.
He said the military will continue to do its best to guard strategic facilities and provide security to lives and property in the region.
We gathered that the militants were arrested at Oporoza, the headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Five of the members were arrested with one suspected to be the leader of the group, they were said to have been relocated to 19th Battalion, Nigerian Army, Koko, Warri.
However since the arrest, members of the group are yet to issue any statement.
