Nigeria, May 31, 2016 – President Muhammadu Buhari has said he was shocked by the decision of his predecessor, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to concede defeat even before the results of the Presidential elections were announced.

Buhari made the revelation while speaking with State House Correspondents as part of activities to mark his one year in office.
According to him, Jonathan called at 5:15 PM.

“He said good Your Excellency Sir and I said good evening. He said I called to congratulate you that I have conceded defeat. There was dead silence on my end because I did not expect it. I was shocked. The President (Jonathan) then asked, are you there?

“I did not expect it because for 16 years the man was deputy governor, governor, vice president, and was president for 6 years. For him to have conceded defeat even before the result was announced by INEC was an act of generosity and patriotism. So, I thank him for that. That is where I pay respect for former President Goodluck Jonathan this is actually privileged information for you”, President Buhari said.
