US PLEDGES $600 MILLION IN AID TO NIGERIA

Washington, April 1, 2016 – Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry has said that the US will donate $ 600 million as developmental assistance to Nigeria in 2016.

Kerry made the pledge today during a meeting of the US/Nigeria Bi-national Commission on the sidelines of the Nuclear Energy Summit in Washington DC.

He said the money will cover health, education, energy, food, security and others.
Kerry who said he is greatly encouraged by President Buhari’s commitment to diversify Nigeria’s economy.

Buhari arrived the US on Thursday. In his delegation are Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, the National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd.) and the Director-General of Nigeria’s Nuclear Regulatory Agency, Prof Lawrence Anikwe Dim.
President Buhari will depart Washington DC for Abuja on Sunday
