Nigeria, April 14, 2016 – The Nigerian Government says a total of 11,854 sex offenders were jailed in the last three years from 2013 to the second quarter of 2015.
This was contained in the April crime statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics(NBS).
Of this number, 11,476 were males, while 378 of them were females, the document reported.
According to the document, 3, 385 people were jailed for kidnapping or abduction. Of the total number, 3, 208 of those involved were males while the remaining 177 were females.
The NBS also revealed from the table that men dominated in all areas of crime during the period.
At least 326, 517 males were put into prison for the period, compared to 16,983 that found their way into prison during the period.
A total of 801 people were jailed for economic sabotage. One hundred and sixty-eight (168) were female while 633 were males.
In the area of armed robbery, 26,974 people were jailed, 590 were females while the remaining 26,384 were males.
