Nigeria, April 27, 2016 – The Executive Council of African Bar Association has elected Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi State member of the Governing Council of the African Bar Association.

He was so elected by the council, an association of distinguished African lawyers, in recognition of his “outstanding records as a celebrated Bar Leader, accomplished Lawyer and African Statesman”.

A notification letter jointly signed by the President and Secretary General of the Association, Mr. Hannabal Uwaifo and Mrs. Flaviana Charles, respectively says the election of Governor Abubakar to the Council of the African Bar Association was based on the confidence the association has in the ability of the Governor to “pilot affairs of the African Bar Association, AFBA to an enviable height”.

The notification letter further explains that the election of the Governor was sequel to his nomination by the Qualifications Committee upon request by the West African delegation and the subsequent elections and ratification by a joint meeting of the Executive Council and the Technical Board held in Nairobi, Kenya on March 6th, 2016.

The Governing Council is the highest organ of the African Bar Association, consisting of 64 members. Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, an accomplished lawyer, was called to the bar nearly four decades ago.
