LAGOS OPENS IKORODU, BADAGRY PARKS FOR EASTER CELEBRATION

Nigeria, March 24, 2016 – The Lagos State Government has concluded plan to open the Badagry and Ikorodu Recreational Parks for public use during the Easter holiday. General Manager, Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), Mrs. Abimbola Jijoho-Ogun disclosed this today during an interactive section with newsmen in her Office at Alausa.

She stated that all necessary arrangement have been put in place to make the Easter celebration a fun filled experience for the residents of the two towns, adding that both parks have all the necessary facilities obtainable in any standard park in the State.
“Adequate security arrangement has been provided for all fun seekers who desire to visit the parks as men of the Nigerian Police, LASTMA and KAI officials will be on ground to protect the lives and properties of all visitors.”

“In collaboration with our strategic partners, entrance fee to the parks will be free throughout the Easter period in order to provide a fun filled Easter celebration for children and adults”.

Jijoho-Ogun stated that the agency, in line with the state government policy on job creation, will soon commence training of over 570 young assistant Horticulturists selected from the 57 Local Government /Local Council Development Areas, adding that the horticulturists will after the completion of their training, be assigned to some of the newly established or existing parks to manage as entrepreneurs.

While advising the residents to prepare for the raining season by ensuring that their surroundings are clean, Jijiho-Ogun declared that the agency has commenced aggressive tree pruning exercise across the state to forestall the dangers associated with tree falling and windstorms.

She however implored all residents to report any danger pose by a tree to lives and properties anywhere across the state to the agency, noting that LASPARK is ready and willing to partner with private and business concerns for adoption and maintenance of any of the public parks in order to achieve collective dream of a greener healthier state.

She also enjoined all private park operators in the state to regularize their operation with LASPARK since the agency must certify that their operation meets the required standard in order to ensure safety of lives and properties of all Lagosians visiting any of the parks in the state.
