Mahmoud Hussein, tortured for wearing anti-torture T-shirt

Egypt: March 30, 2016 – At last freedom has come the way of the 20 year-old Egyptian student Mahmoud Hussein. He was released on bail last Friday after spending more than two years in jail without charge.

He was arrested and detained by the Egyptian authority for wearing an anti-torture T-shirt at an anti-government protest.
According to Amnesty International, over 145,000 people have consistently petitioned the Egyptian authorities for Mahmoud’s release in the last nine months adding that the support not only kept Mahmoud’s case in the public eye but that it also helped him deal with his situation.

“His brother Tito told us, “Through your support, Mahmoud is getting stronger, and through your support also, we still dream of a nation without torture”.

AI added that Ali al-Nimr faces imminent execution in Saudi Arabia after he took part in anti-government protests in 2011.

He was arrested at just 17 years old and suffered an unfair trial based on “confessions” he says were obtained through torture.
Ali al-Nimir was arrested with two others, Dawood Hussein al-Marhoon and Abdullah Hasan al-Zaher in their teens.
