Nigeria, March 9, 3016 – Not less than 26 additional dead bodies have been recovered from the scene of the 5 storey building under construction that collapsed on Tuesday at Lekki Garden Estate Horizon, Ikate Elegushi, Lagos, bringing the total death toll to 31.
General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Michael Akindele told www.starconnectmedia.com that 13 people have so far been rescued alive and that rescue operation was still ongoing.
He said that LASEMA in conjunction with the Nigerian Police Force(NPF), this afternoon released one of the dead bodies to the family after proper documentation for Islamic burial.
He identified the individual to be Mr. Abba Alli who hails from Borno State, adding that rescue operation is now about 61 percent completed.
He said emergency responders on ground are LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) RRS, officials of the Nigerian Civil Defence, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigeria Police.
