Nigeria, March 11, 2016 – Not less than 18 people were today injured when an explosion rocked Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Calabar, capital of Cross Rivers State.
The explosion, which occurred at about 11AM, caused panic in the state capital, several workers were said to have been injured and were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone 6, Adisa Baba Bolanta, who visited the scene of the accident, attributed the unfortunate incident to gas explosion.
He said he saw carcass of gas cylinders at the scene of the explosion, adding that staff said they initially rushed three people who severely affected to the hospital.
He confirmed that altogether, 18 people were affected by the explosion and are now receiving treatment from the wounds sustained in the explosion.
He said that nobody died from the explosion. However, reporters who thronged the CBN office to find out about the incident were barred from the scene.
