Uganda, February 21, 2016 – President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni has been elected as President of Uganda for the fifth term.
He won with a large margin in an election which the opposition believed was rigged in his favour.
Mr Kzza Besigye, his major contender is reported to have been put under house arrest.
In a statement after the results were declared, Besiege said the process was nothing but a sham and called on the international community to reject it.
“We have just witnessed what must be the most fraudulent electoral process in Uganda,” he said in a statement.
Museveni has ruled Uganda in the last 30 years. He is 71. Musevini won 60.75% of the vote while his nearest rival Kizza Besigye got just 35%, the electoral commission Chairman, Badru Kiggundu said.
EU Chief Observer Eduard Kukan said the governing National Resistance Movement’s “domination of the political landscape distorted the fairness of the campaign.
Museveni came to power in 1986.
