Abuja, Nigeria, February 16, 2016 – National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has attributed inability of the Nigerian Government to pay N52billion debt to electricity distribution companies for the poor power supply facing the country.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, NANS Vice President, External Affairs Comrade Oluwatosin Ogunkuade said NANS revelation is based on investigation it carried out on the development.
He said the N52 billion was incurred by agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria and called on the government to pay up so that Nigerians can enjoy stable power supply.
“Therefore as a rudiment of intellectualism in nation’s development, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS hereby call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to bridge the gap between Electricity consumers and Supply Industries.
“MDAs debt and intervention fund must be paid to Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry to assist in improving their services and prevent liquidation and the need for Federal Government of Nigeria to subsidize electricity tariff until adequate stability and considerable percentage circulation of meter is achieved”, NANS said.
On the February 20, Benue South Senatorial rerun, NANS said it is fully in support of its former leader, Comrade Daniel Donald Onjeh.
“This is essential at an era like this when the governance of Federal Republic of Nigeria backs on the positive ideas of more younger and vibrant administrators. Therefore NANS has no reservation to passionately appeal to the people of Idoma of Benue State to embrace Comrade Onjeh and mobilize and defend their votes to effect the change that will bring innovations and progress”, he said.
