Argentina, February 16, 2016 – A footballer in Argentina has shot and killed a referee for daring to issue him a red card. According to local media in Argentina, the referee, Cesar Flores,( 48), was refereeing a local match in Cordoba on Sunday and sent the player off for rough tackle.
The player is yet to be identified, but local police say he goes by the nickname of ‘Baldy’. He reportedly shot Flores several times, the local media reported.
“The most serious bullet wound was in the head. He was also shot in the neck and chest. The person who fired the shots was a player who had been sent off moments before. He went to his bag and returned with a gun and opened fire,” a police spokesperson told La Voz, adding that the referee died in hospital on Sunday night.
Bullets from the gunshots also wounded Walter Zarate, 25, who was standing beside Flores and also received a bullet wound to the chest. “He was taken to a local hospital. The gunman ran from the scene and is still being hunted by police”, the newspaper reported.
