January 10, 2016 – President of the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Bukola Sasaki has condemned recent violence that trailed the rerun election in Bayelsa State.
In a message he posted on Facebook, the President of the Senate said that reports of violence in the election was unacceptable.
At least 14 people were feared killed in the election which held on Saturday, January 9, 2016.
According to him, “Reports of Violence that trailed Supplementary Election in Southern Ijaw Bayelsa State is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.
“Regardless of what political party we belong, we must collectively denounce the violence that has ensued during and after the ballot process, and to the young men and women out there, please remember your blood and life is worth more than any political ambition”, he said.
He was full of sympathy for those who died in the violence.
“I commiserate with those who have lost a loved one and I call on security agents to do everything to bring the perpetrators to face the law”, he said.
