January 22, 2016 – At least one person has been confirmed dead of the dread Lassa Fever in Lagos. The deceased according to the state government was one of the two fresh cases and that he died at Ilasan, Lekki.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris made the revelation in his update since the outbreak of the deceased in Lagos.
The dead, a 51 year old man came in from Edo State.
“A 51 year old man who lived in Ilasan Lekki came back from Edo where he attended a wedding ceremony on December 28, 2015.
“He was initially admitted at Divine Medical Centre in Ikoyi on January 12, 2016 and referred to Mainland Hospital Yaba early January 18, 2016. The patient died at 2pm same day before the result of the laboratory test that confirmed him positive of Lassa Fever was received ”, he said.
He said the state government was currently battling with 14 cases of suspected cases of the diseases as at Thursday 21, January 2016.
He said the suspected cases were discovered in Orile General Hospital, Ahmadiyya Hospital, Alimosho, Mushin, Amuwo, Eti-Osa, Mainland General Hospital. Idris added that a total of 447 have been listed out which 438 were being monitored.
At Ifako-Ijaiye, the commissioner added that out 100 contacts line of the first case listed, 91 of them are being monitored.
In Mushin Hospital, all the 18 contact listed are also been monitored. Also 42 contacts listed in Alimosho General Hospitals are also being monitored according to the Commissioner, who also said only one person are listed and monitored in Kosofe General Hospital.
In the second case, Dr Idris said 66 listed contacts are under surveillance while a total of 220 contacts are monitored in Mainland General Hospital.
