January 23, 2016 – Oshinfolarin Street, in Ilaje, Bariga, a suburb of Lagos was Saturday morning thrown into confusion and deep mourning when a 65 year old woman was roasted in her home.
The incident according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) occurred at about 9 am. We gathered that the cultist has been a source of terror to Ilaje, Bariga before attacking the affected building this morning.
The old woman identified as Adejoke Adefuye was trapped in the building amidst the raging inferno and was totally roasted before help could reach her.
Speaking on the incident, General Manager, LASEMA , Mr. Michael Akindele said in a statement that other occupants of the building sustained injuries adding that the fire was put off by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service by 11 am.
He added that proper investigation will be carried out on the incident for forestall future occurrence.
“A bungalow located at number 19,Oshinfolarin street, Bariga was set ablaze by some hoodlums claimed to be cults member as reprisal action at about 9:00am on 23rd of January, 2016.
“The agency Emergency Response Team, ERT responded to the distress call, as well as Lagos State Fire service,Lasambus, SEHMU and Nigeria police from Bariga divisional police station. Information revealed that the cultist has been terrorizing the area since yesterday before attacking the affected building this morning, trapped the occupants inside and set the building on fire.
“ A 65 yrs old woman known as Adejoke Adefuye was burnt beyond recognition in one of the room. She was the only mortality recorded and has been taken to morgue by SEHMU, other occupants of the building sustained minor injuries that have been treated by LASAMBUS.
“However the whole occupants of the building has been displaced and might need urgent temporary shelter. The inferno was finally put out at 11:55am. LASEMA GM said that proper investigation would be carried out by security operation on the incident. He advise Lagosians to assist the police with necessary information”, he said in a statement.
