January 19, 2016 – The Ekiti State House of Assembly has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government that it will resist all efforts to sack the Ayo Fayose-led government in the state through the report of the military panel set up to review activities of soldiers in the 2014 governorship election.

The House, after its plenary on Tuesday, addressed journalists in Ado-Ekiti, affirming its support for the governor, and asking the Federal Government to desist from actions capable of breaching the peace in the state, in the name of politics.

At the plenary, after the entire members of the House unanimously condemned the Major-General Adeniyi Oyebade-led panel’s report, the Leader of Business, Honourabel Olatunji Akinyele, presented an eight-point resolution of the Assembly, warning the APC-led government against plotting to usurp the state government and attempt on the life of the governor.

“President Muhammadu Buhari should not rubbish the military after it has been commended for its role in the election in the name of opposition to Governor Ayodele Fayose. He should use Fayose’s criticism positively to enhance his government.

“Ekiti House condemns the report of the panel headed by Adeniyi Oyebade which concentrates on Ekiti, leaving out Osun and Edo states being governed by the APC.

“The indictment of the military, after it had been lauded by both international and local election observers, is an embarrassment to Nigeria and the Nigerian military. Ekiti House is not unaware of the plot of the APC to use the panel’s report to take over the government in the state through the back door. Ekiti also knows that the Federal Government plans to muzzle Fayose as the only visible opposition to its tyranny.

“As elected representatives of the people of Ekiti, we will resist any attempt by the APC and the Federal Government to take over Ekiti unconstitutionally. We also want to say that we are solidly behind the mandate freely given to Ayodele Fayose by the people of the state on June 21, 2014.

We will guard it jealously. We have no apology for our loyalty to Fayose.
“We support his pragmatic leadership, fearlessness and philosophy of stomach infrastructure,” Akinyele said.

The motion was supported by Honourable Abiola Jeje and was unanimously supported by the entire members of the Assembly. Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Olugboyega Aribisogan, who read later read a statement to journalists on behalf of the Speaker, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, noted that the House relied on security reports indicating the plots of the APC-led Federal Government to pass the strong resolutions.

He reiterated all the points in the resolutions read on the floor of the House by Akiyele, calling on the Federal Government to be cautious so as not to truncate the peace currently reigning in the state.
