December 21, 2015 – At least five people have been confirmed injured following a gas explosion in a restaurant in Ogba, Lagos, Nigeria. Among those injured are a 7 year-old boy, Okiki Alabede and three persons who suffered severe burns.

We gathered that the incident occurred at Rab Amala Shonola food canteen located at No. 2A Shonola Street Ogba Aguda.

Four victims suffered various degrees of burns. The victims are Abiodun Salami, 27 and 30- year-old simply identified as Mustapha. Other victims are a woman known as Iya Elijah and the 7-year- old boy, Alabede.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Mr Michael Akindele said the leaked cylinder fell and exploded leading to fire outbreak in the area.
He added that five rooms within the building where the incident occurred were affected and that three of the affected victim suffered various degrees of burns and were initially taken to Ifako Ijaye General Hospital and were later transferred to LASUTH.

He said that men of the Lagos State Fire Service and LASEMA were able to curtail the spread of the fire to other parts of the building.

“No life was lost in the incident. Emergency responders on ground include LASEMA team, fire officer from Alausa, LASAMBUS and Police officers from Area G. The LASEMA Boss advised Lagosians on safety precautions while using gas cylinder also the need to install fire extinguishers in domestic and commercial facilities.
