November 04, 2015 – Prime Minister of Romania, Mr. Victor Ponta (42) has been forced to resign after thousands of Romanians took to the street, protesting fire incident in a night club that roasted 32 people while about 140 others sustained various degrees of burns.
At least 400 people are said to in the club, ‘Colectiv’ when the fire occurred.
An eye witness, Calina Smaranda said she saw horrific scenes of people stepping on each other as they tried to escape, while others inside the club were “burning in the flames”.
“The most difficult part was when we had to separate the badly burnt dead from those who were heavily injured,” she said.
The fire was said to have been ignited when a band set up fireworks to herald performance on stage.
The incident led to demonstration with many calling on Mr. Ponta who has been accused of corruption to step down.
“I’m handing in my mandate, I’m resigning, and implicitly my government too. I hope the government’s resignation will satisfy the people who came out in the streets,” he said in a statement.
