November 14, 2015 – Management expert and professor of Political Economy, Professor Pat Utomi has said that it is criminal for government officials to fly First Class with public funds.
Utomi who was speaking on the subject, Reduction in the cost of governance, socio-economic implication for Nigeria, as part of activities to round up 2015 Press Week of the Lagos State Governor’s Office Correspondents (LAGOCO), said that it is only in Nigeria that governors, lawmakers, ministers and others fly First Class with public funds.
He said that he has no qualms if those who run their own business decide to fly First Class but insisted that it is criminal for government officials at all level to fly First Class.
Utomi who said he would prefer a parliamentary system if he has his way, noted that it is ironic for some governors to claim that they are broke, in need of bail-out and consequently not able to pay staff salaries, yet their commissioners drive around town in Prado Jeeps.
