November 6, 2015 – The Golden Eaglets early this morning cruised into the final of the ongoing FIFA Under 17 World Cup when it defeated Mexico 4 – 2 at the Estadio Municipal in Concepción.
The Mexican took the lead in the first half through a goal by Diego Cortes which set the stadium on fire. But two goals few minutes later by Nwakali and Orji Okonkwo took the Eaglets ahead and which completely changed the mood in the stadium.
Osinachi Ebere scored 3rd goal in the 66th minutes while Victor Osimhen scored the 4th goal through penalty after John Lazarus was brought down in the Mexican box.
By this feat, Osimhen has scored nine goals in the tournament which equaled the equaled the long-standing FIFA U-17 World Cup scoring record of nine goals in a tournament .
The record was previously jointly held by French Florent Sinama Pongolle and Ivorian Souleymane Coulibaly who were top scorers at the global cadet championship at Trinidad & Tobago 2001 and Mexico 2011 respectively.
