November 4, 2015 – Passengers traveling within and outside, Bali, a tourist Island, in Indonesia had their movement disrupted today following volcanic eruption of Mount Rinjani which spewed volcanic ash into the air, reducing visibility.
What followed was either delay or outright cancellation of about 692 flights by authority at the Bali International as part of precautionary measures.
Spokesperson for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency explained that the volcanic blast spewed debris and ash almost 11, 500 feet into the air.
The Bali International Airport was not the only airport affected by the volcanic eruption, the Blimbingsari Airport in Banyuwangi in main Java Island has also been shut.
Also affected is the Rai International Airport in Bali which is about 134 kilometers from Lombok and the Selaparang Airport in Mataram, the capital of West Nusatenggara in Lombok Island.
According to Sky News, the closure of the airport affected a total of 692 local and international flights which were either cancelled or delayed.
