November 27, 2015 – The Lagos State Government has concluded arrangement to arraign trustees of the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN) and the engineers contracted to supervise construction of the building that that collapsed, killing 116 people, most of them foreigners.
The trustees and contractor will be arraigned on Monday, 30th November, 2015.
A Coroner, Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, had ruled that Synagogue Church and its contractors were essentially negligent in the fatal collapse of the building that killed 116 people in September 12, 2014.
The Coroner had recommended to the Lagos State Government that the church be tried.
The Church Trustees challenged the findings and recommendation of the Coroner at the Federal High Court and the application was dismissed on Monday November 11, 2015 paving the way for the trial to commence.
While reacting to the verdict by Justice Buba, the State Government disclosed that it would immediately seek arraignment and prosecution of the suspects at the High Court of Lagos State sitting in Ikeja where charges are pending before Honourable Justice Lawal Akapo.
