October 16, 2015 – Editor Daily Times, Nigeria Plc, Mr. Yinka Olujimi has resigned his appointment as editor of the newspaper.

The newspaper which hitherto operated online after exiting the scene returned to the newsstand when he joined as editor. Speaking to our correspondent, he said he resigned to found his law office at Toyin Street, Ikeja where he currently operates as barrister and solicitor.

Daily Times was founded in 1926 and in a short while became the most vibrant newspaper in Nigeria until early 2000 when its fortunes nosedived.

We gathered that under watch of former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the property was sold to Fidelis Anosike since then the fortune of the newspaper has being in the doldrums. Most of those who recently joined the stable did so on freelance basis without any salary, a development experts say is against the statement from the chairman when the newspaper was about to return to newsstand in August, 2015.

Anosike had said the Newspaper is being repositioned and restructured to meet up with modern challenges of the media in the 21st century, and stay ahead of competitors in news reporting.

He said the newspaper has introduced several digital platforms to ensure that it stays ahead of other news outlets in making sure that Nigerians get reliable and accurate news at any time of the day adding that deliberate steps were taken to ensure that its employees realize the new challenges and ensure that it continues in its tradition of reliable and accurate news reporting.

He said his recent visit to the United States is targeted at making the renowned newspaper, once Nigeria’s flagship, stronger and better.

“We are building a more reliable newspaper that Nigerians can trust. In this era of digital journalism, we’ll ensure that we stay ahead of competition. Our online news portal is always updated to ensure that our readers are updated on the go.

“As you are aware, Daily Times is the oldest newspaper currently in circulation in Nigeria. But in the last few years, we have repositioned the paper to meet with the expectations of our young readers while ensuring that do not lose our readers who have kept faith with our brand over the years.

“Our reporters are being trained on use of the latest technology in their reporting because we realize the importance of ICT in modern journalism, ” Anosike said then.
