October 15, 2015 – Automobile regulatory agency in Germany, KBA has ordered Volkswagen(VW)to recall 2.4 million cars in Germany following admission that it cheated on test emission on diesel engine.
“We are ordering the recall,” a spokesman for the motor transport authority said. About 11 million cars worldwide are feared affected by the deception.
Chairman VW, Hans Dieter Poetsch has already launched an investigation into the scandal, but warned that answers would take “some time”.
The firm has also aside $7.4 billion to cover the costs of the scandal.
Volkswagen admitted in September that it had installed software in diesel vehicles to deceive regulators about the true level of toxic emissions.
The admission followed discoveries in US that some VW diesel cars had been fitted with a device to cheat emissions tests.
The carmaker subsequently admitted that up to 11 million cars worldwide could have the device fitted.
Volkswagen had said it aims to start recall of affected cars in January and complete fixes by the end of next year, but KBA rejected the idea and insisted on compulsory recall of the affected vehicles.
The automobile firm is under pressure to identify those responsible for the wrongdoing and fix up to 11 million affected diesel vehicles worldwide.
Meanwhile, Winfried Vahland tipped to become VW’s North America boss has resigned. He is said to be leaving due to his refusal to agree with VW on operation in the region.
