October 21, 2015 – The Lagos State Safety Commission today sealed more construction and manufacturing companies that fall short of the minimum safety standard.

Speaking after another round of Safety Audit and Inspection Exercise of some companies, the Deputy Director of the Commission, Engineer Babatunde Liadi decried the situation at Top Steel Nigeria Limited in Ikorodu where most of the workers were not properly kitted.

He lamented that the company also failed to provide workers with personal protective equipment thereby exposing them to workplace hazards, adding that there were no proper signage, sanitary, inaccessible exist routes amongst other hazards.

While describing as shocking the inability of the company to produce the company’s Safety Plan and other relevant documents, Engr Liadi said the Commission had no other choice than to seal the company.

In the same vein, the Commission also carried out a safety audit exercise at Dukadan Gas Refilling Plant which also fell short of safety standard expected in a work place, with the Commission insisting that it be rectified immediately.

Engr. Liadi explained that the exercise is intended to bring about a positive change and sanity in the Manufacturing and Construction industry, stressing that the State Government is championing the safety management course among the comity of states in the country.

He gave assurance that the government is out to help manufacturers increase production capacity thereby creating more jobs and financially empowering the citizenry without compromising safety standards.

It would be recalled that the Commission in recent times has heighten its safety campaign through safety audit exercise across public and private sectors.
