Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki

October 21, 2015 – President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki today got a temporary reprieve at the Code of Conduct Tribunal ( CCT) where he is standing trial on 13 count charge of false asset declaration.

Chairman of the tribunal, Mr. Danladi Umar who earlier on barred live coverage of the event fixed November 5th and 6th, 2015 for the trial.

He took the decision after listening to arguments by counsels to parties Mr. Rotimi Jacobs(FG) and Mr. Joseph Daodu(Saraki) on indefinite adjournment of Saraki’s case at the Court of Appeal.

Saraki’s lawyer, Joseph Daodu had argued that the matter be adjourned indefinitely the way it was adjourned at the Court of Appeal and that there is need for the Tribunal to respect the Court of Appeal and halt proceedings in honour of the Appeal Court since it is not clear when judgement will be delivered on the case.

But Jacobs argued that judgement at the higher court may be delivered in the next two weeks.
