October 09, 2015 – The Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has declared an indefinite industrial action against the management of Daily Independent Newspapers over the non-payment of 23 months salaries arrears and other emoluments to journalists working in the company.

In a statement issued by the Chairman, Deji Elumoye and Secretary, Bimbo Oyetunde, the union frowned and condemned in totality the insensitivity of the Managing Director, Mr. Ted Iwere in off-setting the 23 months unpaid salaries of workers.

The union therefore directed journalists working with the organisation to embark on an indefinite industrial strike.

Lagos NUJ further reiterated its call for the sack of the Managing Director, Mr. Ted Iwere, for gross incompetence and unchallant attitude towards the plight of workers.

It also added that a capable, dependable and reliable Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief be appointed by the newspaper owners, who the union can discuss and negotiate with.

“In view of the above, Lagos NUJ is calling on the owners of the Daily Independent Newspapers to come and rescue the 11-year old newspapers outfit”, the statement added.
