September 21, 2015 – Headquarters of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) was thrown into confusion this morning when fire consumed one of the offices on the third floor.
All staff of LIRS and Eko Bank were evacuated from the building and had to wait outside in large numbers watching as men of the Lagos State Fire Service battled the inferno.
By 10:30 am, the fire incident has been put off by men of Alausa Fire Service. When our correspondent got to the scene, the building was still condoned off, the fire already put off with most of the workers still standing outside stranded along IPM Avenue, Alasua CBD, Ikeja.
Although only the third floor was affected, some windows in the 4th floor were shattered to show the level of devastation. The fire incident is taking place just two days after a similar fire consumed three offices in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Speaking on the fire, General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency(LASEMA), Mr. Michael Akindele said that he received distress call from Lagos State Fire Service early this morning and immediately mobilisesd his men to the scene.
He said that the fire affected only one office that was still under renovation, adding that no lives were lost. He said that his men found a burnt air-conditioning system and that the generator was on when the incident occurred.
He could not however ascertain the cause of the fire incident. “We are still investigating the incident he said”, he said.
