September 24, 2015 – Controller- General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) has called on customsmen to discharge thier duties in an environment devoid of corrupton and sharp practices.
Ali who made the charge in his Sallah message emphasised the role of his men in generating revenue for government, combating smiggling and facilitating trade with all seriousness that it deserves.
“Together, we must approach our statutory role of generating revenue for government, combating smuggling and facilitating trade with all seriousness it deserves.
“It is a task we all signed up for and for which we are paid salaries. It is a task that we must discharge all the time in an environment devoid of corruption and sharp practices. I believe you are already attuned to the new order and you know that we don’t have a choice”, he said.
He explained that this period of our National history calls for sacrifice and service.
“It demands from us all a new orientation and dedication to give our best to our nation. It calls for selfless service rendered in a patriotic and transparent manner”, he said.
He described the Eid-el-Kabir as the first major festival he will be celebrating with as Comptroller- General.
“I therefore find it auspicious to say “Barka da Sallah’’ to all Muslim Faithfuls and indeed all Officers and Men.
“As we celebrate this festival, I also find it necessary to urge you all to exercise restraints and moderation, as counseled in the Holy Quran. More Importantly, I urge you all not to forget one of the major lessons of the Eid- el-Kabir, which is sacrifice”, he said.
